Recording "The Sister" score!
On Thursday, Rosanna Burrill, 4 musicians, and myself hit The Peggy Corkum Music Room in Halifax to record the score for “The Sister”. Within two and a half hours, the recording was complete…and it sounded amazing. Rosanna Burrill was the composer of the score, spending countless nights writing the music for this film. I can’t express enough how much I appreciate what she...

The Bachelor Canada; The Sister; and new scripts!
Want to hear something ironic? It’s valentines day right? Well, I got an email today to work on the new show, “The Bachelor Canada”. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, with everyone celebrating love today. All jokes aside, I’m really excited to work for the show. It’s on a volunteer basis, which means no money, but for me, that’s more than okay....

"Slag Heaps" hits 1000 hits!
Wanted to share this. The “Slag Heaps” music video from The Town Heroes, which I direted/shot/edited, hit 1000 hits yesterday. Now, I know what you’re saying. “Only a thousand?”. I agree in a way, it’s not a huge number on the internet but it’s still an amazing feat for myself and the band. We’re more than happy that people liked the video, shared...

The Town Heroes "Slag Heaps" Video Shoot
American Psycho meets Dexter meets rock n’ roll. That’s how I’m describing the new/upcoming music video, “Slag Heaps”, from The Town Heroes that I recently shot and directed. You know what, throw in a little “Joker” from the Dark Knight in there as well. Mike and Bruce, the guitarist/vocalist and drummer for the band, have got to be the funnest people to...

Picnicface Episode 11
I just posted a screenshot of myself on the new episode of “Mr. D”. I also did some background for Picnicface last year as well that I forgot to post, but here are some screenshots. I’m on the far left wearing the black hoodie and beanie. This was insanely fun to work on. The whole Picnicface crew are so funny!

"The Sister" Vlog, this Sunday!
This Sunday, on my vlog channel (YouTube.com/thedillongarland), I’m going to be uploading a new vlog that will go into detail about my latest film, “The Sister”. I want to let you guys in on what went into writing, shooting, editing, and everything in between. The film was an amazing experience, and I want to really let you in to how it came together. Also, it was a very personal...

The Town Heroes video shoot (Jan 17th, 2012)
A few days ago, we wrapped on a new music video I’m directing for The Town Heroes, a Nova Scotian band on the rise. In December, the Heroes and myself went to New York City to shoot the bulk of the video, but yesterday we needed to get a intro and an outro here in Halifax. We were lucky enough to get permission to shoot at the Frigate in downtown Halifax.
The premise of the video is that...

Alan Rickman for Best Supporting Actor
The 84th Academy Awards are in 44 days. The nominations, are in 11. I never get caught up in the Oscar’s. I’ll usually watch the show, sure, but I never take time to actually look into nominations and everything that goes with the lead up to the show. This year, it’s different. I’ve found myself embedded to watching everything from predictions, to twitter feeds, and...

The hunt begins: Dr. Horrible Live Adaptation
I had mentioned in my last post that I would be working on a live theatre adaptation of Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog this Summer. Well, I wanted this post to be the first in following that production. First things first, we need to get the rights. Josh Gummett, and myself, are working hard to make any sort of contact with anyone in charge to get the rights to perform the live adaptation....

Production Overload (Good Lord!)
I have never been this swamped with productions in my life. I have about 4 music videos on the go, a demo reel for an actor, a lip dub, 5 election campaign videos for a friend, a few videos for Dalhousie, and about 4 scripts I’m working on for personal projects. Good lord! But, I have never been happier. For me, I’d rather be overly busy with projects than sitting at home with nothing...

Canada's Got Talent - 4 Day Production Assistant
Hey guys! I wanted to come on here and talk about my experience as a Production Assistant on the Halifax taping of Canada’s Got Talent, CityTv’s upcoming reality TV show. In the breifest of terms, it was fantastic. I’ve never had this much fun working in my life, so much to the point that I was more than happy to wake up before the sun gets up and run over to work at 6:30 in the...

A return to vlogging in the New Year.
I started up another YouTube channel, aside from my GarlandFilm channel, in February of 2011. I did some regular vlogs, and updated whoever would watch about some of the stuff I was working on, and all that other jazz. Well, I haven’t used that thing since October. But now that I have a nice new shiny Canon T2i, I think I’m going to start vlogging again, but instead of it being a...

Top 10 Films of 2011: #1
1. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2”
This film defined a generation. Millions of people around the world fled to theatres to see the final chapter of the Harry Potter saga unfold on screen, and for good reason. All involved gave it their all for this film. From cast to crew, everyone was at the top of their game for this film. However, the reason that this film is #1 on,...

2. “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”
I wonder what it feels like to be Robert Downey Jr. This film blew me away. For me, a good film has an amazing ending. This one, has one of the best endings to a film I have seen in a very long time, if not ever. I won’t spoil it, but go see this film for the ending alone. Robert Downey Jr. is one hell of an actor. His acting is so smooth...

3. “50/50”
A perfect blend of comedy and drama. 50/50 was such an amazing story. The way it was presented has effect certain ways I write my own films. This story literally takes everything away from the main character, and leaves him as broken mess, only for him to realize what’s worth it in life and manages to pick himself off the ground, and be better off than before. Joseph...

4. “The Muppets”
The Muppets, at first glance, seem to be something for children. A film, that will bring so many young faces to the movie theatre. Yet, when I saw the film, there was not one person under the age of 15 in the theatre, and a good chunk over the age of 25. The Muppets have been a life long thing. So many people remember the Muppet Show, and although I was too young to...

5. “Charlie Zone”
I saw this film at the Atlantic Film Festival this year, in the packed Oxford Theatre in Halifax. I’ve had a few chances to meet with director, Michael Melski, and have been able to see his work and enjoy his style of filmmaking. Charlie Zone is his best work to date. It’s a gritty story of drugs and violence, but becomes so much more. Melski likes his...

6. “Being Elmo: A Puppeteers Journey”
I could sum this up with one sentence: The best documentary I’ve ever seen. I saw this at the Atlantic Film Festival, in the very front row, so my neck was arched up high. But even with my neck about to snap off, I enjoyed every second of this documentary. It went into every aspect of not only what it take to become a puppeteer, but what it...

7. “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”
This is another film that I didn’t even want to give a chance. The trailer did nothing for me, and I saw it as a “I’m going to regret seeing this” film. Boy, was I wrong. I seriously consider this the strongest installment of the entire Ape series. Having the apes not speak, until near the end, made the film that much...

8. “Super 8”
I was skeptical of this film at first. I didn’t expect much, even with Steven Spielberg’s name attached. However, I was pleasantly surprised when the credits rolled. The child actors were nothing more of amazing in this film. They all have a very long career ahead of them, that’s a guarantee. The big thing for this, from what I heard anyways, was...

9. “Roller Town”
You probably haven’t seen this one yet, unless you attended this years Atlantic Film Festival. Helmed by Picnicface member, Andrew Bush, and starring the rest of the Picnicface clan, Roller Town delivers a non stop gut buster filled with the most outrageous comedy that we’ve come to love from Picnicface. You’ll see this film taking over theatres...

Top 10 Films of 2011: #10
I didn’t get a chance to see as many films as I’d liked to this year, but I did get my fair share in. Here is number 10:
10. “Contagion”
Just a well rounded film in general. The film was strong the whole way through, and presented so many different stories, yet it wasn’t once confusing. The best part about this one for me was Jude Law. He did an amazing job...
Kicking 2012 in it's face!
I just wanted to update you guys on what we’re planning for the beginning of next year, in terms of what we have in store of new footage and films. Here’s a list:

This is the final film of a online trilogy. After their battle in Saving Private Jared 2, Brandon made it out alive and has been in hiding. Now, Jared seeks his final...

Back to "Canada's Got Talent"!
The year is about to come to an end, and I’ve been looking back lately. I’ve had one hell of a year, but it has beat the crap out of me. But with that said, I’m more than excited for the new year! One production I’ll be working on again is Canada’s Got Talent in January, for their Showcase Auditions. I’m really happy to have been asked back to work, as the first...

Blog Wars: Return of the Tumblr
Well, it’s been a few months since I’ve even thought about tumblr. I wanted to come back to it and start blogging for frequently, but instead of this page being the home of “random posts about anything I like”, it will be solely based on my film work, and anything involved with that. I want to start this off with just looking back on 2011. This year rocked me, in the best...

"The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie"
Song du jour/week/month. Love this song! I feel like it’s reminiscent of Californication and By the Way, and I love it. Sure, it would be great to have John Frusciante in the mix, but Josh does an amazing job on guitar and I’m not disappointed in any way. Enjoy this song, and prep yourself for the release of “I’m With You” this August!!

Casting Day 1, "24 Frames Later" web series.
Pretty excited for today. It’s our first day of casting for an upcoming webseries my college class is working on called “24 Frames Later”. It’s a mockumentary styled series following a film crew trying to make a “zombie flick”, but things get deadly after one of the extras is revealed to be…well I won’t spoil that for ya.
We’re set to begin...
