Canada’s Got Talent - 4 Day Production Assistant

Hey guys! I wanted to come on here and talk about my experience as a Production Assistant on the Halifax taping of Canada’s Got Talent, CityTv’s upcoming reality TV show. In the breifest of terms, it was fantastic. I’ve never had this much fun working in my life, so much to the point that I was more than happy to wake up before the sun gets up and run over to work at 6:30 in the morning.

I was production assistant for 4 days of their 6 day Halifax visit. I did everything from order food, take out the trash, set up the catering tables, and just made sure everyone had everything they needed. I also drove a few people around, and parallell parked for the first time ever, twice, without any accidents. The best day out of the 4 day experience had to be day 3, the day of the actual taping.

I had a chance to meet some amazing people during this run. One person was Trevor Boris, star of Video on Trial, and producer for Canada’s Got Talent. I didn’t know what Trevor would be like to a small production assistant like me, in all honesty, he could have ignored me and went on with his day. But he didn’t. He talked to me, asked me what I did, and welcomed me to a part of the team. It was an amazing feeling. He even tweeted me that night to come out to the Economy Shoe Shop here in Halifax with the crew. It’s great to be welcomed so warmly to a production! Also, I had an experience with judge, Martin Short.

I was helping out Craig, a member of the production team and someone I consider a friend now, to clear off the judges table of the confetti one of the acts shot out. Then, I heard a voice say “can you help me and grab my pen”. I looked up to see none other than Martin Short peering over the judges desk, staring right at me. It was great to help him out as well as meet him, someone who has had great success in his industry.

Overall, this experience was the greatest I’ve had so far. Such a welcoming team and an overall great production. I learned and met new people, and had a chance to sit in on a producer’s meeting on the 2nd day, which was a very insightful time. I have to thank everyone I met, especially Siobhan, Craig, Dan, Graeme, and Trevor. You guys made me feel to welcome to your team, and I could not put into words how much I really appreciate it. I hope this won’t be the last time we work together, actually, I have a funny feeling it’s just the beginning of a lifelong friendship and professional partnership. Thank you so much, and to my readers, I hope this was enjoyful for you.
