The Town Heroes video shoot (Jan 17th, 2012)

A few days ago, we wrapped on a new music video I’m directing for The Town Heroes, a Nova Scotian band on the rise. In December, the Heroes and myself went to New York City to shoot the bulk of the video, but yesterday we needed to get a intro and an outro here in Halifax. We were lucky enough to get permission to shoot at the Frigate in downtown Halifax.

The premise of the video is that the Town Heroes are playing a local bar, a music exec comes up and says “have you every thought about going, to New York City?”, then the Heroes imagine what it would be like. It’s a very fun video, and having the chance to travel with the band to New York City was an experience I’ll never forget. The morning of this shoot was a tough one. One of our main actors unfortunately was ill, and couldn’t make it to the shoot. With 2 hours until shoot time, I scrambled, sending at least 30 emails and texts trying to find a replacement. No one was answering, when finally, Anthony answered.

Anthony Manuele is a good friend of mine. Guitarist for the band Jackson Jha (you can see him in the music video, The Student Poverty Song, which I directed) and a very talented musician. He took up the offer to appear in the video as the high up music exec, and he executed it flawlessly. It was great too because The Town Heroes were also good friends with Anthony, so it was just a very friendly and fun time on set.

All in all, this was an amazing shoot and I can’t wait to share the final product with you very soon. I’ll also be directed ANOTHER Town Heroes music video this month called “Slag Heaps”. The story is kind of my tribute to the film American Psycho, so expect blood. Thanks a lot to Jarrod Flemming for helping out on set, as well as our extras, Anthony, Carly and Ebony (photographers), as well as The Town Heroes! Check back soon for more updates on current and upcoming productions. Chow.
